Driver Qualifications

Age Requirement: Driver must meet minimum age requirement of twenty-two (22) years old.

Minimum Experience: Driver must have a minimum of one year verifiable experience as a driver of a commercial motor vehicle similar to the type of equipment they will be expected to operate for Mitchell Bros.   Note: 6 months flatbed experience required for flatbed division. 

Driving experience must be within previous ten (10) years to be considered for a driving position with Mitchell Bros.

 

Driver's Motor Vehicle Driving Record.

     

1.   A driver will not be considered for a driving position with Mitchell Bros. if the driver has any 

       serious violations in the past three (3) years . Serious violations include:

                1. excessive speeding (15 mph or more)

                2. reckless driving

                3. improper or erratic lane change

                4. following too close

2.  A driver will not be considered for a driving position with Mitchell Bros. if the driver has received a citation, been convicted, forfeited bond or collateral for any of the following charges within the last five (5) years:

 

    1. Operating a motor vehicle while under suspension or revocation
    2. Speed exhibition, contest or drag race
    3. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs...to include any alcohol or drug related diversion program
    4. Refusal to take a test provided by an implied consent or similar law
    5. Violation of an "open container" or similar statute
    6. Leaving the scene of an accident
    7. Negligent 2

    3.  A driver is considered ineligible and under no circumstance will be authorized to drive for Mitchell Bros. if the driver has received a citation, been convicted, forfeited bond or collateral for any of the following charges at any time:

    1. Reckless homicide or involuntary manslaughter.
    2. Use of a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony.
    3. Assault with a motor vehicle.
    4. Careless endangerment or negligent 1.
    5. Operating a motor vehicle without the permission of the owner.
    6. Fleeing or eluding a police officer.
      1. Note: If a driver has a pending charge for any violations shown above, the driver shall be considered ineligible, and under no circumstances will be authorized to drive for Mitchell Bros. unless the charge is dismissed or reduced to a charge not shown here.

Other Requirements

  1. A driver is will not be considered for a position of driving with Mitchell Bros. if the driver has more than three (3) preventable accidents and/or moving violations in the past three (3) years.
  2. A driver must not have been involved in a SERIOUS "preventable" traffic accident within in the preceding three (3) years. A serious accident shall be defined as property damage in excess of $25,000/ serious bodily injury/death.
  3. Driver must have a satisfactory employment record.
  4. Driver must be in possession of only one valid commercial driver's license, and it must be issued by the state of his or her residence.
  5. If you work in our "container fleet" your commercial driver's license must have a "double" trailer endorsement
  6. Having a hazardous material endorsement is required as a condition for employment for drivers in our container fleet.  Note: A new hired company driver that presents a copy of the receipt for obtaining a hazardous material endorsement which includes a criminal background check/finger printing will be reimbursed for such fee provided the endorsement was obtained for the sole purpose to work for Mitchell Bros.   In addition, the endorsement must have been issued within 30 days of the hire date with Mitchell Bros.   Mitchell Bros. will reimburse such fee on paycheck following 30 days of employment.   If for any reason the driver fails to remain employed for at least 6 months this fee will be charged back to the driver.
  7. Effective in the near future, a driver must be in possession of a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) in order to gain access to U.S. maritime ports.  Note: A new hired company driver that presents a copy of the receipt for obtaining a TWIC will be reimbursed for such fee provided the TWIC was obtained for the sole purpose to work for Mitchell Bros.   In addition, the TWIC must have been issued within 30 days of the hire date with Mitchell Bros.   Mitchell Bros. will reimburse such fee on paycheck following 30 days of employment.   If for any reason the driver fails to remain employed for at least 6 months this fee will be charged back to the driver.
  8. Effective the summer of 2008, drivers assigned to a fleet that may cross the U.S. / Canadian border must have a passport.
  9. Drivers based in Canada must apply for and receive a PORT PASS or photo identification issued by the British Columbia Trucking Association.  A PORT PASS allows drivers to gain access to port property.  Note: Drivers who present a receipt to Mitchell Bros. for the cost of obtaining a PORT PASS will be reimbursed for such fee.  If for any reason the driver fails to remain employed for a least 6 months this fee will be charged back to the driver.  Mitchell Bros. will provide instructions on how to apply for a PORT PASS.
  10. There must be no record within the last five (5) years of a positive or refused test for a controlled substance or alcohol to be considered for a driving position with Mitchell Bros. Truck Line, Inc.
  11. Applicant must successfully pass pre-driving controlled substance test, road test, ride-a-long, and orientation class before being offered a driving position with Mitchell Bros. Truck Line, Inc.
  12. Driver must meet all other requirements of the Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the Department of Transportation (see parts 391.1 through 391.67 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations book to assure Compliance).
  13. British Columbia Container Division Drivers will be required to fill out Driver Daily Logs in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation requirements.
